PURPOSE:To produce optical fiber matrix of glass uniform in lengthwise direction by a method wherein raw gas, burnt gas and innert gas is flowed from plural-nozzle burners into reactor having at least two upper and lower waste outlets. CONSTITUTION:Various gas consisting of glass raw material such as SiCl4, innert gas, and burnt gas such as H2 and O2 is flowed from plural nozzle-burner 1 into a reactor 3 having upper and lower discharge outlets 82, 71. This allows particle glass 4 to be stacked to form glass-particle stacked-member 6 on starting material 5 which is rotated and pulled up. In this process, the amount of surplus gas 81 discharged from the outlet 71 and generated harmful gas 81 from the outlet 82 are respectively limited to 0.5-1.2 times and 0-0.5 times the total amount of gas supplied. In this manner, swaying of flame is prevented, thereby providing particle member 6 as optical fiber matrix with uniform quality in lengthwise direction. |
