PURPOSE:To obtain an ink jet recorder free from clogging and requiring less frequent supply of a moistening liquid, by a method wherein a porous-walled pipe provided at a part of an air-supplying passage for an ink head is immersed in an ink solution contained in an ink solvent tank. CONSTITUTION:A pipe 21 having numberous minute holes is immersed in an ink solvent 20 contained in the ink solvent tank 19, one end of the pipe 21 is connected to the air-supplying passage 112 on the side of an air-supplying pump 12, while the other end protrudes above the liquid surface of the ink solvent 20, and is opened into a space 23 humidified with the ink solution 20. When the pump 12 is operated in starting recording, the ink solvent 20 remaining in the perforated pipe 21 is pushed by compressed air to flow out through an opening part 22, returns into the tank 19, and only compressed air is supplied to the head 1. As a result, the consumption of the liquid contained in the tank 19 is reduced. When the pump 12 is stopped after completing a recording operation, the ink solvent 20 again starts penetrating into the pipe 21, and the pipe 21 is refilled with the solvent 20 after several hours. Accordingly, when a moistening cover 2 is fitted to the head 1, an ink nozzle 10 is again shielded from the outside air, and a moistened condition is maintained.
