The stop device serves to interrupt the feed of a working piston (8) of an appliance, e.g. of a linear or rotary drive, in a dampened manner at an adjustable position between the two piston end positions and to release the feed again. The Figure shows such an intermediate position, approached from the right in a dampened manner, of the working piston (8) in the cylinder tube (19) of a rotary cylinder. The stop device essentially consists of a sub-assembly (21 - 38) which can be advanced like a piston in a cylindrical extension (40 - 73) of the cylinder tube (19) from a rest position by pneumatic actuation into the stop position shown. The right-hand end of the sub-assembly forms the plunger (23) of a piston damper (21) and projects into the cylinder tube (19) by a length which can be set at the lock nut (60). The pressure in the chamber (72) locks the stop position of the sub-assembly. By pneumatic actuation of the annular chamber (70), the sub-assembly is pushed back to the left into the rest position while the further feed of the working piston (8) is released. <IMAGE>
