In apparatus for racking powdery, granular, pasty or liquid materials into containers, in which the axis of the filling orifice extends obliquely relative to the longitudinal axis of the container, during filling and during the closing operation the container (1) assumes an oblique position in which the axis of the filling orifice (2) is essentially vertical. At the same time, the containers (1) can be supported on two conveyor bands (15, 17) which are arranged at an inclination and are essentially perpendicular to one another and which can be adjusted and fixed relative to the filling device and closing device in the plane perpendicular to the direction of transport. If the conveyor bands (15, 17) are driven continuously, there are provided two slides (10) which are arranged at a distance of at least two containers (1) and which alternately engage between the containers and stop them. <IMAGE>
