PURPOSE:To use a finite quantity of compressed air effectively as well as to make a Diesel engine startable so accurately, by repeating suspension and resumption of feeding the compressed air intermittently at the time of engine starting. CONSTITUTION:A starting command of a diesel engine 1 is confirmed, opening a starter valve 3 by a keying circuit 6, and compressed air out of an air tank 4 is fed thereto. And, whether the Diesel engine 1 is shifted to its self-sustaining state or not is confirmed by an engine speed sensor 2a. When it fails to be competely exploded hereat, how many times of compressed air feeding are counter, and if it is within the specified times, the starting valve 3 is closed via a timer T1 of a time circuit 7 and, after waiting as long as the specified time, the above-mentioned operation is repeated. When it succeeds in complete explosion or when it fails to be completely exploded even if the compressed air feeding of the specified times takes place, the starting valve 3 is closed. With this constitution, a semisolid component in lubricating oil is fluidized even in case of a cold district by intermittent starting rotation so that it an be made into a complete combustion without fail.
