The process and the devices required therefor enable the recovery of liquid or gaseous fluids (G1) which ascend in a heavier liquid medium (G2), particularly biogas recovery from conventional slurry pits without mixing with surrounding media (G3), the substrate level being able to sink without gas having to flow back from the gas collection vessel as would be necessary in the conventional storage system or changeover vessel system. A further exemplary application would be the recovery of oil ascending in the water. In the process according to the invention, on the heavier medium (G2), at least one collecting device (10) having a collecting cavity (14a) sealed off by the heavier medium (G2) at the bottom is furnished with buoyancy (A)-giving means (11) in such a manner that the collecting cavity (14a) floats stably in a functional position (Fig. 2) on the heavier medium (G2) and in the event of an inclined position (Fig. 1), occurring for example on start-up, is forced by the heavier medium (G2) into the normal floating position, because the metacentre (M) is above the centre of gravity (S). The collecting cavity opens out into a pipe (13) which allows the collected fluid (G1) to be forced out or removed by suction depending on the type of the collecting device. <IMAGE>
