PURPOSE:To enable bidirectional printing and contrive a higher average printing speed, by providing a ribbon with two contact surfaces for a head in different ribbon moving directions, and switching the contact surface of the head and the ribbon by vertically moving the head. CONSTITUTION:Figure (A) shows the case where rightward printing is conducted. A head switching device constituted of a motor 13 and a cam 14 is operated to move a head to a ribbon path 6-7, determined by ribbon rollers 6-10 and to bring the head to make contact with the ribbon. In this case, the ribbon making contact with the head is moved from leftward, while the entire body of a carrier is moved rightward, so that printing can be performed by equalizing the ribbon feeding speed and the velocity of the carrier so that the ribbon and a paper are not slipped relative to each other. In the case of leftward printing, the head switching device is operated to move the head to a ribbon path 8-9 so that the head makes contact with the ribbon. |
