PURPOSE:To attain low cost, light weight and small size by using an electronic method so as to obtain momentary zoom effect simply. CONSTITUTION:A signal charge corresponding to an undesired picture element is eliminated by high speed transfer in a solid-state image pickup element 1, the signal charge corresponding to the picture element to be zoomed is transferred intermittently once per n-time of horizontal scanning period and an element output signal 102 is outputted while being expanded n-time in the vertical direction. The color signal component of the signal 102 is separated by sample- and-hold circuits 2, 3 and the signal of 1/n horizontal period of the color difference signal (a) obtained by subtraction is read to one horizontal scanning period delay line 9 by using the clock having a frequency being n-time of a conventional frequency, the signal is read by using a conventional clock to obtain a color difference signal (d) expanded by (n) in the horizontal direction. The similar operation is applied to the luminance signal. Thus, zoom effect is obtained momentarily without using a zoom lens.
