PURPOSE:To allow other semiconductor disk controller to access the same volume by detecting the occurrence of a fault of a semiconductor disk controller so as to restore the content of an exclusive control memory to exclusive control information at initial setting thereby forming accessible state. CONSTITUTION:Even if any of semiconductor disk controllers 4-6 is faulty during other semiconductor disk controllers writes the content of an exclusive control memory 11, an error detection means 19 detects it and an initial value restoration means 20 rewrites the content of the exclusive control memory 11 into the initial exclusive control information at the initial setting and requests an error report to the channel. Then the channel receiving the error report restores the access of the volume at first newly. Thus, the semiconductor disk controller having no fault accesses the desired volume.
