In a known image recording device with a recording head which has a plurality of recording elements arranged in a gap, the outer recording elements are larger in design than the other recording elements in order to avoid, when printing successive lines of print, unprinted white strips on the recording carrier to be printed. In order to simplify manufacture and operation of the recording head, the recording head (1) has at least one additional recording element more than the number of recording elements (7) required to print a printing line level, the at least one additional recording element being provided with the same printing data as its respectively directly adjacent recording element (7). <IMAGE>
