PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording element having optical stability by incorporating optical characteristics necessary for CD interchangeability, and forming a sufficient contrast by coupling with incident laser irradiation. SOLUTION: The optical recording element comprises a transparent substrate, and a recording layer and a light reflecting layer on a surface of the substrate. In this case, the recording layer contains a dye selected from the group consisting of cationic azocyanine dye and mixture of such dyes and an unrecorded layer, in such a manner that a real part of the refractive index (N) at 780 nm is at least 1.8 and the imaginary part (k) is 0.01 to 0.15. |
