CATALYTIC COMPOSITION FOR MANUFACTURING ALPHA, BETA-UNSATURATED ALDEHYDE BY OXIDATION OF OLEFIN

PURPOSE: To provide new catalyst compositions for preparingα,β-unsaturated aldehydes by the oxidation of olefins in gaseous phase and to produceα,β-unsaturated aldehydes by using the catalyst composition. CONSTITUTION: Catalyst compositions are composed of a perfectly spheric solid support substrate with 0.5-6 mm diameter and a catalystically active phase based on bismuth and iron molybdate doped with potassium and phosphorous, and optionally with one or more kinds of other metals or non-metals. The catalyst compositions in which the support substrate is uniformly coated with an adherent layer of the catalytically active phase are characterized by (a) the presence of phosphorus and potassium in 0.005-0.06 atomic quantity per twelve atoms of molybdenum, or of molybdenum and tungsten in the phase and by (b) the catalytically active phase occupying 15-33 wt.% of the catalyst composition.
