PURPOSE: To provide a table area judging device capable of judging a table area with high accuracy. CONSTITUTION: An image input part 1 inputs a document image to be judged whether or not the image has the table area. A graphic area sampling part 2 samples only a graphic area including the table area from the document image, and generates a graphic area image, and stores it in an image storage part 3. A ruled line sampling part 4 samples the ruled lines of vertical line and horizontal line, etc., and generates a ruled line image. Then, a black picture element counter part 5 counts the number of black picture elements of the graphic area image stored in the image storage part 3 and that of the ruled line image generated by the rule line sampling part 4. A table area calculation part 6 finds the degree of table area from two black picture elements obtained from the black picture element counter part 5. A table area judging part 7 judges whether or not the target image has the table area based on the degree of table area, and outputs a judged result. |
