PURPOSE: To suitably input characters without requiring a conversion table and increasing the frequency of key operation. CONSTITUTION: This key input device having a word dictionary 14 storing input characters or input character strings correspondingly to converted candidate characters or candidate character strings is used for a character input device for executing character conversion while referring to the word dictionary 14 and provided with plural keys ('1' key to '0' key on a ten-key 103) to which plural KANA (Japanese syllabary) characters are allocated, a conversion/ next candidate key ('*' key) for instructing character conversion and a definition key ('#' key) for defining a converted reseult. An input character or an input character string inputted by keys ('1' key to '0' key on the ten-key 103) and including a meaningless character or character string is counted as NM (N is the number of operation keys and M is allocation number) and character conversion for the character or character string is executed by depressing the conversion/next candidate key ('*' key) while referring to the word dictionary 14. |
