Security coded documents e.g. cheque - uses printed circuit folded over edge of document with contacts that are closed by reader through holes along document edge

The document has a row of holes (13) along its edge (12). The edge is covered by an insulating plastic strip (16), folded over the edge. The inner faces of the strip carry a printed circuit (20) with contacts on either side of each of the holes. The reader has mobile fingers that press the contacts together. The printed circuit connects some contacts in series, so the reader can detect electrically that the coded contacts have been selected. Other contacts are connected in parallel to indicate false selection. ADVANTAGE - Simply applied and validation of coding of cheque or similar document, reducing risk of fraud.
