An electromagnetic, continuous casting apparatus of the floating type, which comprises a storage furnace 1 for molten metal, a casting vessel 3 for receiving and holding the molten metal in the form of a molten metal column, cooling means 4, which have been joined to the casting vessel 3 and placed on the outer periphery thereof for cooling and solidification of the molten metal column, which is moved upwards by the effect from an electromagnetic alternating field, a means 5 for generating an electromagnetic alternating field, the said means having been joined to the casting vessel and placed on its outer periphery, a tubular conveyor 7, delivering molten metal, for feeding the castable metal from the storage furnace 1 for molten metal to the casting vessel 3, and high-frequency heating means 5 placed on the outer periphery of the conveyor 7 delivering the molten metal, the flow of the cooling medium being reversed in the area in which the second coil, calculated from the lower end of the multiplicity of coils for generating the electromagnetic field, is situated and the tubular delivery conveyor 7 for molten metal, in a curved section by the casting vessel, has an add-on section 7b opposite the storage furnace 1 for molten metal. <IMAGE>
