<p>A multilayered composite for providing sustained release of chlorine dioxide includes a hydrophobic layer containing an acid releasing agent, and a hydrophilic layer containing chlorite anions. The hydrophilic and hydrophobic layers are adjacent and substantially free of water, and the hydrophilic layer is capable of releasing chlorine dioxide upon hydrolysis of the acid releasing agent.</p> |
