The description relates to coated inorganic pigments comprising an inorganic pigment having a coating at least 0.8 mu m thick produced by the sol-gel process from glass-forming components and condensed into a xerogel or glass. Said pigments are produced by spray-drying a sol-pigment dispersion possibly followed by the thermal compacting of the xerogel layer into a glass layer. The coated pigments are suitable for the production of enamels and mouldings.
