PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the gas diffusion electrode to be used for a fuel cell. SOLUTION: This invention is concerned with the electric catalyst gas diffusion electrode for a fuel cell including a catalyst layer made out of solidified (ink) suspended matters which includes an anisotropic gas diffusion layer made out of a porous carbon matrix, catalytic carbon particles and thermal plastic polymer, carbon particles and poly(vinylidene fluoride) are distributed all over the aforesaid porous carbon matrix in such a way that the aforesaid matrix is uniformly porous in the lateral direction against the direction of a gas flow, and furthermore that it is so porous that gas can be infiltrated asymmetrically with respect to a gas flow, the porosity rate of the aforesaid gas diffusion layer is gradually lowered toward the end of a gas flow, the thickness of the aforesaid gas diffusion layer is roughly 50μm to 300μm, the surface low in a porosity rate of the aforesaid gas diffusion layer is covered by the aforesaid catalyst layer, and the aforesaid catalyst layer is roughly 7μm to 50μm in thickness, and is also provided with metallic catalyst of roughly 0.2mg/cm<2> to 0.5mg/cm<2> . |
