PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance sensitive and to reduce fog and the like. SOLUTION: Silver is applied to one side in an amount of <=2.0g/m<2> and flat silver halide grains occupying >=60% of the projection areas of the total silver halide grains have principal faces [100] and an aspect ratio (diameter/ thickness) of >=2.0 and anisotropic growth defects and a length to breadth (longer side to shorter side) ratio of 1∼6 in a rectangular tetragon surrounded by the faces (100) of the edges or that formed by extending the faces (100) of the edges and this silver halide emulsion is prepared ion the presence of a compound A<0> and/or compound B<0> , and the compound A<0> is an organic compound having 2 or more adsorbent groups in one molecule, for accelerating formation of the (100) faces of silver bromide grains, covalently combined with the compound and the compound B<0> is an organic compound having 2 or more alcohol groups in one molecule, and both compounds are organic compounds except gelatins and proteins.
