A blow molding process for obtaining a plastic container (40) for carbonated beverages. The container (40) includes a supporting member or internal wall (17) in the hollow space of the container. A preform (10) is blow molded to form a precursor container which will deform to form the finished container (40) when pressurized, e.g. when filled with carbonated beverage. Mechanical properties such as the relationship of tensile stress to deformation are measured in several chosen locations in a model precursor container. The data from the model is used to alter the shape of the precursor container at areas of stress concentration so that excessive deformation at these areas is avoided and the desired finished container (40) is obtained. |
