In the present publication, cleaning methods for used, organic mixtures of cleaning agents appearing notably within the printing industry have been described. By means of the process of the present method, a reusable solvent is separated from the cleaning solution of which the water content may vary considerably; relatively clean water is separated which can be let down the drain; and the sedimentary cleaning solution being left as a distilling residue is taken care of. In the method according to the invention, water is always used in the distilling process as one of the components, as the evaporation of water and solvent takes place simultaneously at a temperature somewhat higher than the boiling point of water at normal pressure. The advance of the process is controlled by the introduction system for the process water which is based on automation technology. Said technology detects in the boiling vessel by means of a sensor the physical condition showing the need for feeding water into the boiling vessel. After the evaporation and condensing, the distillate is carried to the boiling vessel where it is separated into two phases, a solvent phase and a water phase, which after being detected by a detector are carried to each their separate destination. The automated process which is based upon the method of the invention, may function continuously in a closed cleaning solvent circuit.
