The spark is initially ignited by short high frequency pulse created by discharge from the charge condensator (4) and then prolonged by a lower voltage-condensator which is linked to first primary ignition system and charged up to high voltage using a high frequency oscillator (5). Prolonging of the spark is then carried out using the lower voltage from the oscillator which is supplied to another primary ignition system. The condenser is split into two parts (2,3) for the different primary ignition systems, and a control unit (7) governs the duration of the spark.
