The clamping device (14) secures an object to the wire cable (24) at a fixed point along the cable length. It works by clamping the cable between at least two clamp elements (15,17), which are screwed together with the cable between them. At least one of the clamp elements has screw fixings (16) for securing the object to the clamping device. The object may be mounted on a fixing flange provided by one of the clamp elements.
