A method for driving a gate of a liquid crystal display device is provided to improve charging characteristics of an image signal by precharging a data line before displaying the image signal. An odd-numbered gate line and an even-numbered gate line are combined into one group. A driving signal for the odd-numbered gate line is applied on the odd-numbered gate line during a period, which is longer than a first line time(TL) by a first time(TEXT). A driving signal for the even-numbered gate line is applied at an end timing of the driving signal for the odd-numbered gate line. Image signals of the same polarity are applied on horizontal pixel rows on the odd-numbered gate line and the even-numbered gate line.
