PURPOSE: To provide a document reader capable of reading character data even when further there is a table including character data within a table. CONSTITUTION: A layout analysis part 21 disciminates a table area and a character area from the image data of an arbitrary document including tables and characters, analyzes the areas and performs an area analysis till the table area is not included in the area when further a table area exists in the analyzed table area. a layout data confirmation/correction part 23 performs controls so as to display the analyzed table area and character area so that they can be discriminated and the recognition order of each are can be discriminated, and changes the area or the recognition order when the change instruction for the displayed area or the recognition order is given. A recognition part 22 recognizes the character in the character area analyzed in the layout analysis part 21. |
