PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a proper recording apparatus which can stably prevent the adhesion of an ink mist throughout the length of a scale, and which can stably maintain the high-precision detection of a position of a carriage over a long period of time. SOLUTION: An inkjet printer comprises a recording head 5 which is mounted on the carriage 4 reciprocating in a direction orthogonal to the carrying direction of printing paper, so as to emit a jet of ink, and a carriage position detection mechanism 7 which detects the position of the carriage 4 so as to control the drive of the carriage 4 by a carriage driving mechanism 6 for driving the carriage 4. The mechanism 7 comprises: a scale 11 which is provided along the moving direction of the carriage 4; a sensor 12 which is mounted on the carriage 4 so as to read a mark on the scale 11; and a mist adhesion prevention tube 13 which covers the outer periphery of the scale 11 so as not to inhibit the reading operation of the sensor 12.
