A heat-storage stove comprising a thermally insulated shell containing one or more heating compartments 8, 9 in thermal contact with a system of ducts 10, 11, 12 communicating with a chamber 6 which serves as a heat source, wherein such chamber 6 is equipped with an electric heating assembly 1 comprising one or more resistance heating elements 2 carried by a refractory armature 3 and arranged so that air can freely circulate between the elements 2 and the armature 3. Also provided is a method of converting a heat storage stove, wherein any burner is removed from a combustion chamber and the chamber is then equipped with an electric heating assembly 1. The heating element 2 may be rated at less than 13 amp. The heating element 2 may comprise a 2.5 kW heater. The armature 3 may be cruciform in cross section, formed from a pair of generally similar plates 30, 31 slotted together. The armature 3 may be formed of an aluminium silicate. The elements 2 may be lead through holes (32, figure 1) in the armature 3. The armature 3 may be mounted on a ceramic plate 51. The chamber 6 may be surmounted by a barrel 7 topped with a hotplate for cooking, and located adjacent top and bottom ovens 8, 9, the heating assembly 1 projecting into the barrel 7. The stove may be made in part from cast iron. A thermostatic control may be arranged to control the temperature in the heating compartments 8, 9. |
