[Also in Division B8] Apparatus for forming a pair of parallel heat seals in a web formed into a tube about articles to be packaged, comprises reciprocating upper and lower jaws 80, 75 operated by a cam 60 and linkage 72, 73, 76. The upper jaw 80 may be in two parts each of aluminium, copper &c. with a knife 80c secured to it by set-screws. The lower jaw has heat resistant insets 75b, 75c, e.g. of silicon rubber. In the heat sealing position, the knife edge remains slightly spaced from a co-operating face 75d. |
