A pressure sensitive transfer material is manufactured by applying to a carrier, e.g. paper, a solution/dispersion containing an organic polymeric binding agent, a wax dissolved in a non-polar or weakly polar solvent, a wax dispersed in the solvent in the form of gel particles, the amount of dispensed wax being 40-70% by wt of the total wax and a pigment dispersed in the solvent and after application evaporating the solvent while keeping the gel particles in a substantially unsoftened condition. Examples of binding agents are polyvinyl ethers preferably used in conjunction with alkyd resins modified with styrene,α-methyl styrene or vinyl toluene, epoxy resins and/or phenolic resins modified with resin acids. The wax preferably has a penetration index of 1-20. A mixture of wax components may be used at least one of the components having a penetration index of 1 to 10, e.g. oxidised mineral waxes and esters and amides thereof, solid hydrocarbons, Pennsylvanian mineral waxes of the branched chain type and Candelilla wax, and at least one component having a penetration index of 10 to 60 e.g. OZO kenites, soft ceresins petroleum waxes which have a microcrystalline structure, ester waxes, Japan wax and bees wax. Examples of the solvent are benzine, 1, 1.1 trichlorethane, benzene, toluene or a mixture thereof. The pigment is preferably C black having a specific surface arc of more than 125m<SP>2</SP>/g.</p> |
