A strip e. g. a Ni coated Fe strip 2, Fig. 1, is passed through a suspension of nickel oxide and a binder in bath 3, optionally through a wiping device 6 and then vertically upwards through a furnace 9 containing a reducing gas and comprising a first vertical cooling section 10, is then bent at right angles and passed through an horizontal part of the cooling section 11 and then downwards through a second vertical cooling section 12. The strip is coated on both sides with sintered Ni formed by reduction of the nickel oxide in the reducing atmosphere e.g. 12À5% vol. H 2 and 87À5% vol. N 2 which is introduced at 13. The nickel oxide 1-10 microns size and a binder such as mitrocellulose is suspended in butyl acetate. |
