1,212,215. Distillation apparatus, control of vacuum. WEIR PUMPS Ltd. 4 Nov., 1968 [24 Nov., 1967], No. 53475/67. Heading BIB. In a distillation apparatus comprising evaporator 1 and condenser 2, maintained under vacuum by jet pump 10, the vacuum in the still is controlled by air-inlet valve 31 which is regulated by sensing-means 32 which measures the flow of distillate in conduit 13, whereby the rate of evaporation is maintained at a desired value. The distillate is drawn off from condenser reservoir 20 into conduit 13 by pump 15, and is directed to a storage tank (not shown) via non-return valve 29. The feed, e.g. salt water, is supplied to the evaporator 1 through conduit 5, and excess brine is drained off through conduit 9. In the embodiment shown, sensing-means 32 is a restrictive device in conduit 13, so that when the level of distillate rises to conduit 13a a signal is sent to relay 33 which causes appropriate movement of valve 31. The restrictive. device and conduit 13a may be replaced by a flow-meter. Valve 31 may also be regulated by a temperature sensing-means 35 in the inlet 11 for the heating-medium.
|
