1292664 A fastener driving tool ACME LANE CO 21 Nov 1969 [21 Nov 1968 12 Feb 1969] 19632/72 Divided out of 1292663 Addition to 1223051 Heading B4C A tool for securing a fastener to a base member comprises means for receiving a strip of fasteners interconnected by a thin integral web, means for aligning an end one of the strip of fasteners with a nail, means for driving the nail through said aligned end one fastener and into said base member, and means operable only upon the driving of said nail to sever the web joining said end fastener thereby separating it from the strip of fasteners. In using the tool of the particular embodiment for securing panels to a base member using wing headed fastenings of the Specification 1,292,663, a strip of fastenings is placed in the T-shaped slot 47 and the first fastening is held adjacent the first cutter 81 by the action of the spring 50. The tool is placed in an appropriately shaped slot of a panel to be fixed to a base member and held in position by the protrusions 99, 100, thus depressing the cutting means 83 against the action of compression springs (102, 103) to bring the second cutter into contact with the web 36a joining the first and second fastenings. A nail from a nail clip 42, aligned with the aperture 38 in the fastening 36 is fired. through the aperture into the base member, the force of the nail being sufficient to sever the web 36a on either side of the fastening from the fastening and fix the fastening in the base member with the wing heads holding the panel in place. The tool has a safety device 108 which prevents the trigger 89 being depressed unless the cutting means 83 is depressed. |
