The hydrogen oxygen mixture released from the electrolyte during charge and discharge is collected in spaces above the vents from the individual cells where a known catalyst brings about combustion of the gases, the resultant water formed during this process being fed back into the electrolyte. The chambers are of material which is porous to air and to electrolyte but impervious to the catalyst and completely enclose the electrode space together with the housing/casing. Filter paper is suitable. Perforated plastic spacers may be interposed in the assembly and either fibreglass wool or a perforated plastic plate be used for the catalyst container. |
