Olefins are polymerized in the presence of an organometallic compound and a solid obtained by reacting, in the absence of a liquid diluent, a liquid halogen-containing compound of a transition metal and a solid support comprising an oxygen-containing compound of Mn, Co, Ni, Fe or Sn having a low hydroxyl content. In the examples, ethylene is homopolymerized in the presence of Al(-i-C 4 H 9 ) 3 - TiCl 4 -MnO, NiO, Co 2 O 3 , Fe 2 O 3 or SnO reaction products in hexane in the presence of hydrogen. |
