1278130 Compacting potassium salts H W KOPPERN and H SCHAFER [trading as MASCHINENFABRIK KOPPERN & CO KG] 10 Sept 1969 [11 Sept 1968] 44767/69 Heading C1A Compacted potassium salts are produced from potassium salt flotation concentrate by first heating the concentrate to a temperature sufficient to evaporate the flotation agents, and then compacting the heated salt in a smooth roll press. When amines are the flotation agent, the salt concentrate should be heated to a temperature of between 180‹ and 300‹ C., the concentrate should preferably be screened to remove any particles larger than 0À5 cm. It is preferred to operate the roll press at a temperature of 100-120‹ C., and at a force of 4-6 tons per cm. roll length. The heating of the salt concentrate may be carried out in two stages, the first stage by passing hot gases countercurrent to the salt, to heat the salt to 100‹ C., the second stage by passing hot gases co-current with the salt, to heat to 180-300‹ C. The exhaust gases from the second stage are passed to the first stage to secure maximum utilization of the heat. |
