1,269,125. Bonded polyamide articles. MONSANTO CO. 3 Nov., 1969 [4 Nov., 1968], No. 53804/69. Addition to 1,248,232. Heading DIR. Articles of polyamides, other than those in which the nitrogen atom and the carbon atom of each -NHCO- group throughout the molecule are each linked to a carbon atom of an aromatic nucleus, are bonded along their contiguous surfaces by contact with a gaseous mixture comprised of SO 2 and Cl 2 which is then desorbed e.g. by heating. The articles are preferably of nylon 66 in continuous filament form and deposited randomly by air jets on a support to form a web which may be subjected to pressure before or after contact with the gaseous mixture. The articles may be staple fibres formed into a mat by a carding machine and optionally needled. Other filament forming materials such as polyesters, polyacrylics, polyolefines, spandex, and rayon may be combined with the nylon 66 filaments and also natural fibres of cotton or wool.
|
