1389254 Plating bacteria EXOTECH Inc 31 May 1972 [2 June 1971] 25550/72 Heading C6F Apparatus for plating bacteria comprises a horizontal rotating support 20 for rotating a plate 22 e.g. a petridish which carries a nutrient, a dispenser 49 for bacterial liquid mounted for linear movement from centre to edge of the plate and means 48', 50, 51, for decreasing the amount of liquid dispensed as the dispenser moves from centre to edge of the plate. Motor 13 drives the plate, via gear box 14, and also causes the dispenser to traverse the plate, via chain drive 36, 41, and sliding carriage 23 whilst the amount of liquid dispensed is controlled by lever arm 48 also carried by carriage 23 which depresses plunger 49 on the dispenser, at a varying rate dependent on the movement of pointer 50 on cam 51. The rotating support 20 may be transparent and may be of adjustable height. The apparatus may also include a light source, a light sensor mounted on carriage 23 and a counting device so that a bacterial count may be made over any part of the deposited trace. The count may be made by transmission or reflection of the light from the source. The sensor may be a photo-diode. |
