The lift conveyer 2 comprises endless chains 4-7 which carry flexible cargo-receiving plates 2a. The intermediate conveyer 9 may be located between the lift conveyer 2 and the lower conveyer 3. The intermediate conveyer 9, instead of being endless as shown in Fig. 4, may be a roller conveyer as shown in Figs. 12. If it is desired to retain cargo thereon a stopper 11 is raised thus preventing cargo from passing thereover or alternatively the driving 9c and idler 9b rollers thereof are arranged to be vertically movable relative to each other so that the driving rollers may be moved away from the bottom surface of the cargo.
