PURPOSE:To obtain the title hemolytic streptococci having the great streptolysin S-producing and antitumor a activities in high yield, by culturing the bacteria in an assimilable carbon source-containing medium at a specific pH or above. CONSTITUTION:Hemolytic streptococci are cultured in a medium containing about 0.1-5wt/vol% of an assimilable carbon source, e.g, glucose, mannose, fructose, lactose, sucrose, and maltose. During the culturing, the pH is maintained at 5.6 or above, preferably 5.6-7.5, more preferably 6-7. The bacteria multiply rapidly to increase the yield of bacterium bodies having the great streptolysin S-producing and antitumor activities. |
