<p>The thickness of a coating on an electrically conducting substrate is measured without contact and without a reference sample using two pick-ups. One pick-up sensitive to the position of the enterior surface of the coating, and the other pick-up sensitive to the position of the surface of the substrate are brought successively to the same measuring point in the vicinity of the sepcimen. The superficial pick-up is of pneumatic type and the depth pickup is a Foucault current pick-up. the measuring appts. has a framework supporting on a moving system a moving pick-up carrier in which the two pickups are rigidly fixed. The pick-ups are brought successively to the same zone of the specimen to be measured by the carrier whose movement may be translational or rotational. The axes of the pick-ups are perpendicular to the exterior surface of the coating specimen to be measured.</p> |
