NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I [R1 is CH3 or C2H5; R2 and R3 are H, Cl, etc.; X is Cl, -OY (Y is CH3, C2H5, etc.), -SZ (Z is beta- hydroxyethyl or phenyl), -NW1W2 (W1 and W2 are H, butyl, etc., and are not H at the same time)]. EXAMPLE:A compound expressed by formula II. USE:A dyestuff for heat-sensitive, pressure-sensitivie recording materials, etc., having improved water and light resistance of recorded images as well as high speed of response of electric conduction display. PREPARATION:For example, a pyrimidone compound expressed by formula III is reacted with phosphorus oxychloride in a solvent, e.g. monochlorobenzene, etc., to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I (X is Cl), which, as desired, is reacted with the corresponding amine in a solvent, e.g. methyl cellosolve, etc., in the presence of sodium bicarbonate, etc., to give the compound expressed by formula I (X is -NW1W2). Alternatively, the compound expressed by formula III is reacted with an alkylating agent to afford the compound expressed by formula I (X is -OY).
