PURPOSE:To reduce a play region near the steering center of a steering wheel to improve responsive property to steering by connecting the steering wheel to a power assist through an elastic member while providing a restraining means for giving set load to this elastic member. CONSTITUTION:A steering shaft 3 connected to a steering wheel 1 is divided into the upper and lower portions, both portions being interconnected with a coupling 14. Namely, the lower end of the upper portion 3a of the steering shaft 3 is supported through a bearing 15 by a coupling body 16 in which is fitted a pin 17 having spherical heads 17a at both ends. On the other hand, the upper end of the lower portion 3b is fastened to the lower portion of said body 16, and cylindrical collars 22, 22 are inserted into a pair of parallel insert holes 20, 21 formed in this body 16 to sandwich the upper head 17a so that the head 17a is sandwiched by a pair of springs 24, 24. And a restraining means 28 consisting of stopper pins 26, 27 for giving a predetermined set load to the springs 24, 25 is disposed opposed to the head 17a in the respective insert holes 20, 21. |
