A device serves for stacking flat workpieces provided with stacking holes on stacking pins or stacking fingers of an endless flexible conveyor means which runs over deflecting rollers at the ends, or an endless conveyor chain which runs over deflecting chain wheels, which are advanced intermittently by a step after the formation of a stack having a predetermined number of pieces. The device comprises a conveying means for the successive feeding of the workpieces to be stacked and a means for pushing the workpieces onto the stacking pins or stacking fingers. So that stacks can be formed on the stacking pins or stacking fingers without the feeding of the workpieces to be stacked having to be interrupted during the advancing of the conveyor means after formation of a stack, the stacking fingers (9) are arranged on elongate pedestals (12) fixed on the conveyor means (10) or on the conveyor chain, whose width is smaller and whose length is greater than the diameter of the stacking holes. At least one essentially U-shaped supporting piece (18) is provided which forms an intermediate stacking finger, is fixed on a carrier (17) and can be slid in or swivelled in, the profile cross-section of this supporting piece being smaller than the diameter of the stacking holes. In its engagement position, the supporting piece (18) surrounds the stacking finger (9). The height of the supporting piece (18) corresponds approximately to the height of the pedestal (12).
