Supporting beam for overhung gates - which comprises plastics foam body with plates glued to vertical sides

The supporting beam is for use in fences and gates, particularly overhung gates. It comprises a beam-shaped body (2) of plastics foam, and onto whose vertically side plates (3,4) are glued. It can have flanks (17) of insulating material, also clad with plates (18), and glued to the side plates. The plates can be of thin steel or fibre-reinforced plastics, and the insulating material can be integral with that of the beam. The plates on the beam sides can have flanges fitting round the top and bottom, over which there can be channel-section components of thin plate.
