PURPOSE: To provide a driving method for matrix type plasma display panel in which a precise emission display corresponding to picture element data can be performed. CONSTITUTION: A first priming pulse is applied to row electrodes, thereby, a wall load is formed on a picture element cell. A second priming pulse is applied to either one of the row electrode pair, and a picture element data pulse is also applied to line electrodes, thereby, the wall load formed on one of the line electrode pair within the picture element cell to be laid in the emitting state is extinguished by a prescribed quantity. A scanning pulse is then applied to either one of the row electrode pair, and a reverse picture element data pulse is also applied to the line electrodes, thereby, the wall load formed within the picture element cell to be laid in the non-emitting state is extinguished.
