PURPOSE: To obtain a controller for electric vehicle provided with a plurality of encoders in which a motor is controlled based on the output from a normal encoder, if any, when the plurality of encoders produce different outputs. CONSTITUTION: The controller for electric vehicle comprises a detector 50 for detecting the abnormality of encoder by comparing the outputs N1 , N2 from a pair of encoders, and a processing section 60 for deciding whether each encoder is normal or not by comparing the output from each encoder with the output Vs from a vehicle speed sensor. When any encoder is abnormal, the torque of a motor 2 is controlled based on the output from an encoder which is decided to be normal. More specifically, when a part of a plurality of encoders has failed, a decision is made correctly which encoder is faulty and the motor is controlled based on the output of a normal encoder thus running an electric vehicle continuously. |
