METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FAST PATTERN GENERATION

A method and apparatus for fast pattern generation, in which a sequence controller operable at conventional speed is used to speed up pattern generation. Multi-phase sub-patterns are generated from a plurality of sub-pattern generators and combined in a multiplexer so that pattern generation can be achieved at the operating speed of the sequence controller multiplied by the degree of multiplexing. A specific construction is employed for an instruction memory of a pattern generator so as to accomplish the fast pattern generation method described above.
