A method of producing fluorinated organic compounds such as organic sulphur pentafluorides. The method includes the steps of converting a compound such as R<1>-S-S-R<2> into R<1>SF<5> by reaction with an inert solvent of R<1>-S-S-R<2> and elemental fluorine. R<1> and R<2> may be for example selected from aryl, heteroaryl, aliphatic or alycyclic groups.
