Vehicle sliding roof panel safety device

The photoelectric beam safety system has a transmitter (22) in a fixed position in the roof and a receiver (26) also in a fixed position in the roof. The monitoring light beams are transmitted between transmitter and receiver using passive optical elements to form a photoelectric beam pattern. If an object breaks a light beam the servo drive closing the panel is stopped. The light beam sections are arranged along the inner edges of the roof panel. Light is ducted to the sections by fibre optical links. Some of the elements of the safety system are coaxial to the tilt axis of the roof panel to ensure protection in any tilt setting of the panel.
